Sussex County Chess

At present Horsham Chess Club is one of the strongest clubs in Sussex,
with players at all levels some of whom represent the county,
which usually only involves playing 4 or 5 matches per season.
However the county only has an Open team and an Under 180 team,
whereas most other southern counties also have teams at Under 160,
Under 140, Under 120 and Under 100. This is a disgrace for our county,
but it is because people have not come forward to be captains.
I am therefore volunteering to revive the Under 160 team next season as captain
before hopefully handing over to younger players in future.
Would all players under 160 who wish to play please let me know.
Additionally would anyone wishing to captain any of the lower band sides
please come forward now so that we can put in some juniors and
preserve the future of chess in this county.

Well the new gradings are out so how about it! Why not become a county player by just being available
to play on about 4 or 5 Saturdays in the entire chess season?
Roger Waddingham has kindly stepped forward to captain the Under-140 side, whilst I am taking on
the Under-160 team. Meanwhile the Open and Under-180 teams continue to want new players.
So just apply to whichever team suits your grading and we can revive Sussex county chess!
