Horsham 1 last few fixtures roundup

A short summary of the last three league fixtures, sorry I have been remiss in reporting but I went on holiday the day after the first match and got way behind!

In early April we hosted Brighton (today confirmed as Div 1 winners). This was a frustrating match with three draws and a loss for Mark, but James and Gavin were both probably winning at various points and my opponent played well above his rating for a well-earned draw. Could easily have gone our way on another night.

G.R. Lock 1/2-1/2 L.E. Rutherford
M. Broom 0-1 C. Salmons
J.C. Mansson 1/2-1/2 P.A. Batchelor
A.R.J. Higgs 1/2-1/2 A. Porter

Thankfully the next match went like clockwork, we all performed well down at Eastbourne for a 4-0 whitewash. Gavin played his best game of the league season, Mark won material early and I had a positional crush. James was tested more by Paul Carpenter but came out on the right side of the tactics.

O. Froom 0-1 G.R. Lock
L.A. Butt 0-1 M. Broom
P.J. Carpenter 0-1 J.C. Mansson
M.J. Reddie 0-1 A.R.J. Higgs

Finally we closed the season with a 3-1 away win at Lewes. The top two boards were deserved draws from what I hear, whilst James swept in with a blistering attack and I contented myself with an endgame grind.

P.G. Farr 1/2-1/2 G.R. Lock
R.R. Welford 1/2-1/2 M. Broom
A. von der Becke 0-1 J.C. Mansson
G. Adams 0-1 A.R.J. Higgs

Today it was confirmed that Brighton have won Division 1, and by beating Hastings 1 they dropped to third place with Horsham 1 in second. A very decent result and we will be looking to go one better when hopefully the league returns to five board matches next season.
