A Sad Death

Many Horsham members will recall the ever-cheerful John Coules, who sadly passed away on Feb.16th, aged 75. John was a regular member of Horsham Chess Club for most of the period 1983 – 2011 and had been a valued committee member and team captain.

How very, very sad - a real gentlemen. We had such fun in the old Horsham 4/5 along with Tony and Dick Newman. On the way back from an away game (and if he had lost) John always regaled us, in the car, with each cut and thrust of his game, along with a few groans and the inevitable 'Oh I'm giving up on all this now,' Of course you'd always then see John at the Club the following Tuesday! A lovely man.
