Having started the season with a 'long castle', I finally got on the scoresheet in helping Horsham 3 to a hard fought 3-2 win against Brighton 3.
Nick A's game was first to finish. Notwithstanding his black pieces he had already established a pleasant initiative shortly after the opening which he built upon and appeared to be heading for a comfortable and well constructed win when unfortunately he walked into a perpetual with a sharing of the spoils.
As for my game, I enjoyed what seemed a reasonably well conducted attack against the Caro-Kann though needless to say my silicon friend was not quite so impressed!
Meanwhile Ian's English appeared to be in control from very early on which led in due course to material gain and whilst his opponent stretched matters out, the result was rarely in doubt.
I didn't see much of Julie's game but she seemed quite comfortable until a couple of inaccuracies forced her resignation when faced with an unstoppable pawn.
This left Nick W needing to score a half point to secure the team win. In the early middle game things looked under control but by the time his was the only game still being played matters looked quite bleak. However, some enterprising and aggressive play thereafter, with both sides missing opportunities, ultimately led to a dead drawn position with just rooks and pawns on the board, thereby leaving Horsham as narrow winners.
