An exciting night of chess with only ten seconds per move and the usual mistakes showed up... on my board at least!
There were 21 players split into three divisions with the winners going through to the final. Anthony Higgs, James Mansson and Daniel Miller all had perfect scores from their division and battled in a tense series of final matches.
Daniel and James reached an opposite bishop endgame which eventually ended in a tense draw - only the second draw of the evening. Anthony and Daniel had a seesaw game with Daniel gaining a winning material advantage but dropped some pieces back before having to resign. It all rested on the final game between James and Anthony where a draw would give Anthony victory. Another Rook and opposite Bishop ending was reached which was fought through for some time before a draw was finally agreed and Anthony proclaimed Lightning champion.
