As per Ian's post below, Peter tied 6.5-6.5 with the club in the annual Champion's Simul. The highlight of the evening was the following game against Darren...
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 Bc5!? [The Traxler Counterattack - razor sharp and a very good choice for a simul!] 5.Nxf7 Bxf2+ 6.Kf1 Qe7 7.Nxh8 Qc5!? [The usual move here is 7...d5 I think but pretty much anything goes in this line. Black must attack unremittingly to make up for the rook minus.] 8.Be2? [Passive, which is fatal in this variation. Black responds in classical Traxler style...] 8...d5!? 9.exd5 Bh4 10.g3 Bh3+ 11.Ke1 Ne4 12.d4 (see diagram) Nxd4 [This is good but even better is 12...Nxg3! based on the fact that 13.dxc5 Ne4/Nf1 is mate.] 13.c3? [Losing on the spot, but only 13.Bd3 and 13.Bh5+ survive and Peter can hardly be blamed for missing these in a simul.] 13...Nf3+! 14.Bxf3 Qf2# 0-1
Short, sweet and an ideal simul opening - well played Darren.
