Quickplay Night

It's Tuesday

We had a very busy night of quick play last night.

In the main Quick play Knockout James Mansson and Paul Taylor played out the semi final. Paul won the first game with a typical sharp attack when James had seem better out of the opening. But in the second game James won pretty securely so it all hinged on game three where James played very accurately to secure the win.James is through to the final of the Quickplay awaiting the outcome of Brian vs Anthony.

In the Quickplay plate Chris Heath played Paul Richardson in some combative chess. Chris was eventually able to win 1.5-0.5 but then had to take on Nick Warren. While Chris had been playing Nick had been getting some practice in against Alex Taylor and this clearly paid off as he was able to beat Chris to reach the plate final. Richard Barroclough will be his opponent to decide the Quickplay plate in the new year.

While the Quickplay games were being fought out there was just one Rook game going on between Lucy and Phil. This was a very tight closed Sicilian where Phil as White undertook operations on Lucy's Kingside. As the kingside attack was neutralised Phil was left with some queenside pieces undeveloped and Lucy was able to win a piece. Meanwhile in the Bishop Richard and Paul had a tight game which ended in a draw.

We won't be meeting on Boxing day so we will next meet in the new year on 2 January and take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas!

I think you're being a bit generous about my play in the QP knockout! I'll post some more detailed notes on my blog fairly soon, but I would note that in the third game I was most likely lost at one point and only won after a blunder by Paul when he was very short of time.
