Horsham 1 suffered a defeat away to Lewes 1 last night. There was an early draw between Dix Roberts and Martin Costley, as the former was unable to dent the latter's solid Double Fianchetto formation. This was followed by defeats for Phil Stimpson and James Mansson, leaving Horsham 2.5-0.5 down with two to play. Unfortunately, no miracle occurred this time, as Dominic Lawson got the better of Paul Taylor. Anthony Higgs' win again Barry Maufe merely served to make the score respectable.

A win for the Paul Watson team against Bognor on board count and a conclusive win for the fifth team with yet another good turnout despite five players in our top team playing away.
A few quick reminders - final chance to pay subs before the cost increases £5; catch up with KO teams; London chess classic on 7 December (see forum)

Horsham 1 just managed to scrape a draw against St Francis and Haywards Heath 1 after the three unfinished games from the match were agreed to be one win for Horsham and two draws. The match, played on the Tuesday of last week (30th October), saw the first team confronted by a strengthened Haywards Heath outfit, who have acquired the services of former Crawley stalwarts Chris Baker and Robert Noyce.

Although Horsham 4 lost their most recent match, they did have more success in their previous fixture, which was away at Uckfield on the Wednesday, 24th October. They defeated the Uckfield second team narrowly 3-2, after their opponents decided to resign the unfinished board 2 game rather than go to adjudication.

Horsham 4 suffered a heavy defeat to Worthing 3 at home last Tuesday, going down by 4.5 to 0.5. There was the odd moment of misfortune (e.g. Laurence Draper's blunder against David Wallis when the exchange up), but generally the team was outclassed by a side containing a trio of junior Grahams.

Just a reminder that next Tuesday is in half term, so there will be no junior chess club. I will be along around 7:15pm to open up for the two MSL matches taking place.

Team captain Mick Harris reports:
We got off to a flying start last night with a 4 – 1 win over East Grinstead 1. Boards 3, 4 & 5 had convincing wins, Board 1 a solid draw, whilst Board 2 used one of his 'nine lives' with a fortunate half with both sides in time trouble.
