Not a very impressive headline but we were up against a very strong Worthing first team.
On board 4 Ian appeared to miscalculate a tactic in the opening and dropped a piece early, which Chris Jones soon converted. Peter was facing an unpleasant position a pawn down with less space, and decided on a piece sacrifice which Matt Payne dealt with and exchanged down into a won endgame. Chris H was making his Horsham 2 debut for this season and was involved in a close game on board 5, but Keith Homeyard knew his endgame theory and headed for a winning Lucena position (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucena_position). Dave Graham always had a slight edge in a queenless middlegame against me, but I kept it in check until a very poor rook move left my pieces uncoordinated and unable to prevent a White breakthrough. It was left to Mike to spare our blushes in the battle of the FMs on board 1 - in an unexpected Caro-Kann Mike managed to hold a rook & knight vs queen endgame which has been agreed drawn after some home analysis.
Result below:
M.C. Forster 1/2-1/2 A. Therrien
A.R.J. Higgs 0-1 D.B. Graham
P. Harbott 0-1 M. Payne
I.S. Comley 0-1 C. Jones
C.W. Heath 0-1 K. Homeyard
4.5-0.5 to Worthing overall.
