Thought you might like this pic I stumbled across on the web - it is very reminiscent of the human chess exhibition referred to in John's excellent history
One of my memories of St. Petersburg is of an obscenely opulent chess set in the Catherine Palace (near to the famous Amber Room) that was set up with the board the wrong way round - in Russia of all places!
