Last night saw the start of the Quickplay Knockout competition. The aim was to complete at least the first couple of rounds and this was largely completed, with only the top eighth failing to do so as a consequence of the rearranged D Gray - Z Rustom fixture not being played. Indeed, there were a few people keen enough to play their third round matches as well, so we already have one semi-finalist in the main competition and the plate!
The main upset result of the evening was the elimination of James Mansson by Melusi Nkomo. Melusi won the first game on time in a drawn endgame, before James struck back in a topsy-turvy second game to take the match to sudden death. The third game was another complicated encounter, in which Melusi managed to break through with a kingside attack. He nows faces Paul Taylor in round three.
Full results from the competition can be found here.

The 2 Marks
Much as I am tempted the 2nd round plate game between Mark Hewitt and myself is in fact a dead heat at the moment after 3 games - we need to arrange a 4th game decider in the next 2-3 weeks!

Peter's spreadsheet had you down as the winner of the match! I've updated the results page to indicate that the tie is incomplete.

I have this pairing as a 1.5-1.5 tie so far in the results book, not sure why Peter had something different...
