Last Thursday Horsham 2 made the long journey to Hastings, despite missing 3 of our best players, Ian and Bob stepped into the breach, and unfortunately we lost a close match having been noticeably outgraded.
Ian's game was the first to finish with an equal middlegame transtitioning to an endgame where Ian's opponent had unpleasant pressure down the a-file. Ian fought hard but his opponent found the right moves to bring home the game for Hastings.

Last night saw Horsham 6 compete in our first away game of the season (not counting the first game against Horsham 5!) Our opponents …. the formidable Brighton & Hove 5 team, the current leaders of Div 4 who had easily won their first 2 matches. But was last night going to be their night? No, it wasnt!!
From being down 0-2 (by about 9:30pm) Horsham 6 duly ground out hard fought wins on the 3 remaining boards securing the all important match victory at 10:45pm. Heartfelt thanks to my fellow team members – Roger Waddingham, Dick Newman, Gary Whitmore and Oliver Thorne.

At present Horsham Chess Club is one of the strongest clubs in Sussex,
with players at all levels some of whom represent the county,
which usually only involves playing 4 or 5 matches per season.
However the county only has an Open team and an Under 180 team,
whereas most other southern counties also have teams at Under 160,
Under 140, Under 120 and Under 100. This is a disgrace for our county,
but it is because people have not come forward to be captains.
I am therefore volunteering to revive the Under 160 team next season as captain

I feel rather a traitor to Horsham Chess Club, but this is just to inform you
that the Argumentatives will now be playing you in the semi-final of the MSL KO!
Our trip to Lewes on Tuesday Dec 18 resulted in an overwhelming success for the Args
against Lewes Firsts by 2.5 points each (win on grading)!!
Julie is away but has been informed and we will be offering you possible dates
for the Jolly Tanners in Jan or Feb.

has anybody seen the end game chess study video on chess.com today? ( thursday ) absolutely incredible!
its under the headline ' one of the most famous chess endgame puzzles ever' well worth a look if you;re not familiar with it already.
cheers richard.
Each December several HCC members head to this fantastic event at the Olympia conference centre (full details at www.londonchessclassic.com).
I reckon that Friday 7th Dec looks like the best day to go this year. It is round 6 of 9 in the main competition so there could be some hard fought games there, plus the FIDE Open is running with several GMs alongside the women's international. Nigel Short is doing a simul at 6pm and there is a weekender tournament starting around the same time so there will be even more chess on display.

This is different from the now familiar London Chess Classic.
The Festival, as the website (chess.spectator.co.uk) makes clear, is not a tournament per se. Rather it is an afternoon event comprising a range of activities (lectures, hands-on coaching, playing for fun etc culminating in a simul against Ray Keene).
I've just activated the Forum module on the website. You should be able to add stuff to the forum when you are logged in.
