Horsham 3 beat Hastings 3

Hastings castle

A pretty impressive looking result for Horsham 3 last night.

The most unusual opening was on top board where Marc Bryant tried to outwit Roy Page with 1.a3 g6 2. h3 b6 which is unusual. He tried a later g3 and Rh2 to allow Bg2 but Roy always looked very strong and his attack soon became overwhelming.

Horsham 3 - Double report

Horsham 3 played a home game versus Woodpushers on Tuesday, we were missing our star performer Matthew but Roy Page was able to step into board 1 for us.

Only one game was finished before time control, Ian on board 2 had a great attack going and looked like a mating net was close after an exchange sacrifice but his opponent was able to get his queen back into the defence and hold.

First match of the season - Horsham 3rd vs Horsham 4th

In the MSL division 2 both Horsham 3rd and 4th teams had to start the season with a match against each other and even with a large grading difference a win is never guaranteed.

Runners-up position on tie break for Horsham 3

In our last match of the season, Horsham 3 drew 2.5 - 2.5 with Woodpushers 1 to finish joint top of the league on points. However on tie-break we scored fewer game points than Brighton 2 and have to settle for the runners-up position.
Nevertheless Horsham 3 are entitled to promotion to Division 1 where they would join Horshams 1 & 2. Altogether a very satisfactory season for us. I am grateful for all the support and efforts of the members who played for us this season.

BRIGHTON ROCK(ed) -- by Horsham 3 !!

Time and tide wait for no man....
A trip to Hove for a crunch match, provided a sensational evening. This was the final match of the season for Brighton 2. With 6.5 points from 7 games, a win would see them become League champions with promotion to Division 1 as the prize.
Horsham 3,unbeaten with 5/5, were warmly welcomed,as familiar faces settled down to battle it out. Brighton significantly out-graded Horsham on every board (see teams below).
Mick tried a sacrificial attack, but excellent defence trapped his queen - and Horsham were 1 down.

A game of 2 halves - and a win in extra time for Horsham 3

Horsham 3 recently hosted Brighton and Hove 3 and despite being caught offside on a couple of occasions, ran out 3-2 winners. Ian and Nick, both with the Black pieces, were outplayed to leave us 0 - 2 before half time.
The second half was hard fought and saw Tim and Chris, both with the White pieces -- and almost identical attacks following their Closed Sicilian openings -- slowly gain ground. Chris won a piece late on, and Tim turned a solid draw into an excellent win. 2-2
