Matt Forster has scored an amazing 7/7 to jointly share the top performance in the Mid Sussex League...well done to him and also to Roger Waddingham who achieved 8.5/11.
Congratulations to Mike Forster for winning the Knockout. After an initial draw with Anthony Higgs he was successful at the second attempt and picks up the Knockout trophy. Mike won the Knockout plate last year so he is building up an excellent track record in this event!
Another great evening with some howling errors (mainly mine) and some attacking chess. Anthony Higgs achieved 6.5/7 but still had to have a play off with Phil Stimpson - with Phil going through to the final to play Paul Taylor.
In an exciting couple of games Paul finally won to make him champion!

Dave Britton reports:
The first blunder was from me as once again we had white on evens,
Jon lost the exchange and soon after the game in a queens Indian with neither player castling, Julie had time trouble and missed the opportunity to equalise with RxR+ before Norman exchanged the last pair of Rooks and gained a piece. Gary got his bishop trapped in a difficult position while in my game Bob allowed me to fork both Knights with Queen by move 11 in a Sicilian-French
Last night (7 May) Horsham visited Lewes to play the final of the Paul Watson trophy. This is a 4 board competition with a maximum Team total grading of 600 – and a Quickplay time limit. The gradings worked out practically identical,so a close result was likely.
