World Chess Rebranding

A colleague sent me a link about the rebranding of World Chess. Andrew Paulson, founder and director of Agon, who bought the rights to the World Chess Championship, engaged the services of design agency Pentagram to create a new identity for World Chess.

Knockout Round 1

Last night saw the start of the club's knockout competition. This consists of a main draw and a plate section for first round losers. The games are now all played using the Mid-Sussex League Knockout time control: 30 moves in 60 minutes, followed by all remaining moves in 30 minutes.

Quickplay starts the season!

Last night's quickplay started the season off with real gusto...some players have already reached the semis and some of us managed to begin to remember the moves.

Don't forget that it is the first round of the Knockout next week so the serious chess is about to begin!

Library restocked

Earlier today I did my annual pre-season clearout of the cupboard and refreshed the selection of books in the library with several donated from the collection of our former chairman Peter Alford...

Junior Simul

Prior to Dix's exciting 10-10 simul draw against the club, the juniors were holding their own simul against three-time champion Matt Forster...

Honours even...simul update!

Anthony Higgs won his game against Dix so the overall score is now dead drawn. Well done to so many who managed to win and better luck next time to those who didn't.

Many thanks to Dix for such a fine performance - these simuls are very demanding - and for launching this season so successfully.

Congratulations...

Well done to : Melusi Nkomo, Lawrence Draper, Phil Stimpson, Paul Richardson, Nick Warren and Gary Whitmore who managed to beat the club champion - Dix Roberts. (See next post for update concerning Anthony Higgs result).

Julie Denning, Tony Locke, Paul Taylor, Andrew Burling, Jordan Madsouski and James Mansson all managed a draw.

Sadly Ian Comley (first to lose!), Lucinda Ritchie, Dick Newman, John Ludlam, Guy Turvey, Peter Harbott and Matt Forster all lost.
