Knockout 2nd Round

33 players at the club tonight with 16 internal competitions being played. Joe Wilby ended up with a pretty checkmate while James Mansson overcame Peter Harbott. Dix Roberts and Nick Warren were fighting to the very end of the evening with just minutes left on the clock before agreeing a draw.

Some great chess was played and there were some interesting endings - Paul Kington did well to convert a Rook and Rook Pawn ending against Richard Barrowclough.

Although Horsham 4 lost their most recent match, they did have more success in their previous fixture, which was away at Uckfield on the Wednesday, 24th October. Horsham 4 suffered a heavy defeat to Worthing 3 at home last Tuesday, going down by 4.5 to 0.5. There was the odd moment of misfortune (e.g. Laurence Draper's blunder against David Wallis when the exchange up), but generally the team was outclassed by a side containing a trio of junior Grahams.

Mid Sussex Chess League starts for Horsham

Our Mid Sussex season starts off in style on Tuesday with Horsham 1 v Horsham 2 and Horsham 4 v Horsham 5...good luck to all 20 players participating!

I have had a few queries about who is in which team...it is not quite as simple as that as we often find players competing in more than one team - sometimes even three!
